Good afternoon teams!
Thank you so much Skip for posting the latest update. There is not a change for the Virginia DC region, essentially FIRST has adopted how we interpret immediately when it comes to combined mission models.
First, a big THANK YOU to everyone who tested Masterpiece Hero 3.0 for Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead last month. Because of your input, they were able to win the Innovation Award at the Ashburn Tournament and move on to states in December.
But the iteration continues!
They modeled their game off of the organization Art Recovery International and when they came back from regionals, decided to email them with the good news. The CEO wrote them back with congratulations and a great idea on how to reboot the game to turn it into a PSA for the world's real missing art.

Our FLL team has aged out after five wonderful years, and we have a great hand-built wooden table that I'm offering for free. The table would need to be picked up in NW DC (Tenleytown), potentially this coming weekend. You'll need a large vehicle, or padding/rope to put on the car roof and I'm happy to lend a hand.

Can someone please clarify this for our team?
Do you receive points for the pedestal if it is in contact with the expert or any audience members?

Thank you to Denyse Carroll and all the volunteers who made the qualifier at Manassas so wonderful this weekend. It was an outstanding event and ran so smoothly even with 36 teams competing. Everyone was so positive and supportive of the kids. Our team had a great time and made some memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you!
Hope you all are well and enjoying different tournaments. I wanted to check if anyone wants to give away or lend their mat and missions for a few weeks.
Thank you

Hello Volunteers! What a great time we had at the Norfolk tournament on Saturday. We had a lot of fun! It was so nice talking with coaches, kids and families. And without a doubt, the Norfolk Volunteers are the best! Karen, Steve and Amanda, and everyone supporting what you are doing, thanks! The experiences these kids are getting in PRICELESS, and we could not do it without you.

Yes I completely agree! Our team had the best time at the Norfolk tournament thanks to the amazing leadership, volunteers and other teams! We had the best refs, judges and FRC students encouraging our teams. From the teams working to help each other at the practice tables to high five tunnel and Lego cheers at the end, this is what FLL is truly about! Friends, I hope your FLL season has been awesome, and I'm looking forward to seeing many of you at the state tournament in a few weeks! Just a quick shout-out to FROGS Robotics for this awesome resource! One of our teams is reaching out to several of the experts listed on the directory this week to get their input on their latest iteration of their video game. And will also be emailing the teams listed to introduce themselves and ask for beta testers for their latest version of their innovation project, Masterpiece Hero. Sometimes running a team feels like you're in an FLL silo but this directory widens our world. Thank you! (And if you haven't added yourself or your team yet, this is a nudge

Can an attachment stand higher than 12 inches once inspection is done and the match is underway or do all attachments need to be under 12 inches at all times?

After inspection, the height of the robot does not matter.

sorry to re-open this thread again.. I like to get some more clarification. If the attchment is under 12 during inspection, but at the time of mission launch, it is attached to the robot. It fits within the launch area, but the robot + attachment is taller than the imaginary 12 inch line - is that still valid ?

To everyone who made the Ashburn Tournament possible this past Sunday...THANK YOU SO DARN MUCH! We brought three rookie teams this year (all teens) and they all left on such a high. Hands-down our favorite part of the day was seeing all the kids do a conga line before the awards ceremony. What joy!

One of our teams has a long equipment piece for one mission testing the edges of the launch area. Is the black line outlining the launch area considered part of the launch area or does the robot have to be inside the white area of the launch area (can they be on the line but not beyond the line). That 1/2 of a centimeter for the black line space on the curve of the launch area and back wall makes a difference for their mission.

The border of an area is counted as part of the area in FLL, so you should be good.
I recommend letting your referee know about it before the match starts, though.

john, As long as the introductions are very short, like each just saying their name, you will be fine. In some of the judging rooms the judges may take some time to introduce themselves. A quick "Would you like us to introduce ourselves?" or "Do we have time to introduce ourselves?" from the team will make it very clear. If the judges think time is pressing, they may say something like "As long as

Hi John...
The first two minutes are for the team. They can use that to set-up, introduce themselves, or talk about anything that they think will highlight their work for the season - outside of the project or robot design. They should strategize on how best to use that time.

Due to confidential reasons, we have one team member who wants to approach the table but is not responsible for a mission run/did direct programming. We'd like to have this person at least approach the table to turn off the 'bot at the 2.5 minute cutoff. We thought we have read that only two people are allowed at each launch zone. Can we, during the run, have one technician step away from the table
Hello all, For Mission 4 - the kids have placed the pedestal + art piece + 7 audience members + expert, together in a small container and the robot pushes the container to the museum target destination. Is this acceptable? My concern is that the rule book page 9 says that the pedestal may not touch any team equipment other than the art piece. so in this case, is the box considered as a team equipment?

Hi all, Is a robot attachment allowed to hang over the edge of the table when being launched from the home area? Technically it is directly above the edge of the table and doesn't stick out past it but my team is worried about it.

We are planning for our program to run with multiple executables and we know we are currently longer than 2.5 minutes. Our plans is to, ala the great British Baking Show, have the robot going until the judges say time and then sweep it off the map.

Page 21 of the robot game rulebook states:

So, rather than sweeping it off the map, just have them push the stop button, "and touch nothing else". :)

Scott is correct. There is no extra points for a robot stopping somewhere. Either the referee or the team will just need to turn off the robot at the end of the match.

In this case it would be the edge of the mat. Yes, it includes the black line.
When you get to the tournament it is likely this black line is going to be covered by a quarter inch gaffer's tape. You're not exactly going to see it and teams get benefit of the doubt. If the attachment is obviously outside the launch area, the referee will ask the team to move it in.
