Hmm. I have to admit that one of the strategies my team is considering
involves driving over the walls. I didn't see anything in the rules that
preclude this but I wonder if they did this and the wall got damaged could
that be ruled "deliberate" damage? or would it only be deliberate if they
clearly intended to damage them (e.g. "bulldozing" or otherwise knocking
them out of the way)?

Is this something that should be submitted to the Q&A blog?

I wouldn't worry about accidental damage. The general rule is that it's
gotta look deliberate and/or play into the team's strategy (I guess that
would imply deliberate). I.e., if your robot tries to make points by going
over the guide walls, knocking them down in the process, that would probably
NOT be acceptable. If they're known to be fragile and they fall over when
bumped, it's as likely to hurt as help, and is not (or at least should not
be) penalizable (hmm, apparently that's not a word, but you know what I
mean!).

And yes, sometimes they will be glued -- but you can't count on that,
either.

I'll have to go back and read the rule again about if we damage the guide
walls unintentionally. They are just a fragile design. But if the walls are
not solid it may change the behavior of the robots and the time it takes for
the judges to piece them together may be a factor.
