Current natural disaster news: The Philippines was devastated by a powerful typhoon last Friday. Meteorologists said typhoon Haiyan had maximum sustained winds of 314 kilometers per hour (195 mph) and gusts up to 379 kilometers per hour (235 mph). If that happened here, meteorologists would call it a Category 5 hurricane, the most powerful rating on the scale.
