Phil and Scott's advice is very sound. As a coach going into our 3rd year and parent of a child on a very successful team the best advice is to focus on those missions your team is able to do based on their current abilities. That is truly have a strategy that is within their ability. Focus on being successful on those missions. As they add skills and the earlier missions are all set (they are successful most of the time in practice) add more missions. Have them focus on time and difficulty to make changes (changing attachments) between runs.

Budget at least 30 seconds for pit stops, this leaves you about two minutes for missions. Every year my teams had to trim runs/missions to fit under the time. Test your time early and often.
