We completely agree that Scoring Apps need to always be used along side the rules for the year.
We cannot speak for other people's tools, but we are very careful about the actual points, calculations, etc. We follow the rule updates very carefully, etc. We also share our work in other forums and incorporate any and all feedback immediately. So, feel free to let us know if you see anything wrong.
The only issue we have ever had with our scorer was someone who misinterpreted the rules and gave themselves points for a mission that they should not (ie. they actually didn't do the mission correctly). That was a human error by the coach and team. No scoring tool can account for this. So it is important for teams to understand the rules as well. Our Scorer is just a calculator and cannot interpret what the robot did during the game. That is up to the team and the Ref.
Feel free to contact us any time. We are a FIRST Team also and we take pride in creating and sharing useful resources (lessons and tools like the scorer) to help all teams succeed. We ourselves have been to International Opens and World Festival numerous times and EV3Lessons.com was our 2014 Research Project.
