* Feeling the Holiday spirit yet? Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) is holding its second annual toy drive for local kids. Collection boxes are set up throughout the HBS building. We hear Paw Patrol, Legos (boy and girl), board Games, "Frozen" Dolls and Barbies, Shopkins, and balls are in special demand this year! You can also donate food items in separate bins located on the Ground Floor of HBS.
* Interested in applying to a Psychology graduate program? Attend the Applying to Psychology Graduate School Session led by the Psychology Peer Advisors. 7:30 pm, Thursday, November 10, Blackwell Auditorium in Moody Hall.

* On October 18th, JMU's Health Policy Collaborative hosted its third annual Health Policy Summit (HPC) 2016 bringing together students from Nursing, Social Work and Communication Sciences and Disorders. The main mission of HPC is to bring students, faculty, and community members together to advocate for better health policies, as well as encourage interdisciplinary learning between health students. Students engaged in a "Mind the Gap" exercise to develop proposals to provide health care services to individuals who fall in to what is now called "The Medicaid Expansion Gap".
* School of Nursing faculty and students have won numerous awards and recognitions since the publication of the previous CHBS newsletter in October! Included in their collective accomplishments is the 2016 AACN Innovation in Professional Nursing Education Award for "Re-envisioning Traditional Models for Nursing Education and Leading Programmatic Change.
* Congratulations to Michael Hall, Psychology, who now has a website<http://www.psyc.jmu.edu/undergraduate/auditoryperception/software.html> for auditory researchers and electronic musicians to download his software tools. A few days after Dr. Hall launched the website, he had 44 downloads from 7 different countries.
* Bill Evans, Psychology, and his team of graduate and undergraduate students gathered for a three-year project questioning what kind of service contributes to a person's sense of purpose. Dr. Evans and his students recently presented some of their findings at an international conference in Austria. More information<http://www.jmu.edu/news/chbs/102515_logotherapy.shtml>.
* Last spring, Psychology major Nancy Mack received the "Excellence in Poster Presentation: award at Georgetown University Undergraduate Research Conference in Washington D.C. for her project that studied a connection between alcohol consumption and sleep deprivation. * Athletic Training program senior students visited alum Nancy Burke at the Fairfax County Police Training Facility on September 30th for a tour and to learn how athletic trainer can be a valuable member of the law enforcement team. Nancy saves the department over $200,000 per year by providing on-site injury management and rehabilitation care while also working with officers on injury prevention programs.

* The Masters of Occupational Therapy program was very well represented at the Virginia Occupational Therapy Association conference in Glen Allen, Virginia. JMU presenters at the event included students Christie Briskey, Elyse Powderly, Alex Le, Heidi Maeyer, Megan Dwyer, Meaghan Smith, Hope Sadowski, Chanele Molano, Clara Wright, Jake Gilbert, Hannah Fauber, Stephanie Jansen, and faculty Drs. Twylla Kirchen and Jeanne Wenos.
* Health Science students Kevin White, Monica Eaton, Dakoda Farrington, Mary Pegelow, and Nursing student Kasey Beville in Dr. Erika Kancler's HTH 390 Selected Topics in Health Science course worked on developing an interactive digital collection of medical images for instructors and students to see internal anatomy as they would in health care practice, and presented their work at JMU's Teaching and Learning with Technology Conference, October 24, 2016.

* Congratulations to Dr. Natalie Kerr Lawrence for once again directing the Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP) annual conference on teaching where student Allison Brandmark and Dr. Krisztina Jakobsen presented a poster titled "Team-Based Learning vs. Lecture: What do Students Remember?"
* Dr. Kenn Barron, Psychology, delivered the keynote for the Noftsinger Celebration of Madison Scholarship.
* The Athletic Training program welcomed back alum Susan Yeargin '01 on homecoming weekend. Susan, now a faculty member at University of South Carolina, presented on Management of Heat Related Illnesses in Athletes to students, faculty, staff and program preceptors after an open house showing off our awesome new teaching spaces.
