Readers of this list may be interested in the job listed below. A few
things worth knowing, if you're not based in the UK:

(1) UK academia now has a new emphasis (thanks to government
requirements) on research that has an impact outside academia. In
many areas of philosophy, this is obviously a huge problem. But lots
of people in feminism and related areas do integrate their research
and their real-world activism. If you're one of these people, you
should know that this is now a big selling point in the UK.

(2) You have probably been hearing lots of horror stories about what's
happening to academia in the UK. And there is indeed a lot that's
horrible. But the effects of the policies vary from place to place,
and Sheffield is (so far anyway) healthy and projected to continue
being healthy.

(3) Health care is free, contraception is free, maternity leave is 39
weeks paid (plus 13 unpaid, if desired), paternity leave is 26 weeks
paid. (So, not Scandinavia but still pretty good compared to the US!)

Job information below:

The Department of Philosophy, University of Sheffield seeks to make a
permanent appointment, preferably to start in September 2011. The
Sheffield department is one of the strongest in the UK, ranked very
highly indeed both for its teaching and research. (See
http://www.shef.ac.uk/philosophy/home.html)

The AoS for the post is open, though expertise in Kant or post-kantian
continental philosophy might be an advantage. Appointment will be made
at either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level (roughly equivalent to
Assistant or Associate Professor), depending on the successful
candidate's achievements and experience.

Details of the post may be found at: http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/jobs/.
The job number is UOS002477.
Informal inquiries should be directed to Prof. Robert Hopkins
([log in to unmask]).

Note that all applications must be made via the University's
e-recruitment system (accessible via the link above). Applicants will
be required, inter alia, to provide two samples of philosophical work
and the name of three referees. The closing date is April 26th 2011.
