I was hoping it was a hoax when I saw the subject line, but I afraid it’s very real.  A giant of a person and a very valued colleague of mine — of ours — is gone.  I am home alone and writing through my tears and needed to reach out to you all with my grief.  I am especially pained that I couldn’t say goodbye.  We clashed, collaborated, and learned from each other. It’s deeply saddening that we will not meet again.
