Hello FEASTers,

My department is hiring for an unusual position: a 3-year post-doc focused
on teaching philosophy. That is, it's designed explicitly to create the
time and support needed for a newly minted PhD to improve their teaching
skills in a creative, supportive environment. We're doing everything we can
to end up with a robustly diverse application pool, so please do spread the
word! (The job ad, which I've pasted below, will show up on the on-line JfP
as soon as the APA folks get around to posting it...)

Thanks
Ann

Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Teaching of Philosophy. Elon University
invites applications for a 3-year, non-renewable Post-Doctoral Fellowship in
the Teaching of Philosophy, beginning mid-August 2012. Elon University is
an equal employment opportunity employer committed to a diverse faculty,
staff and student body and welcomes applicants from underrepresented groups.
AOS/AOC open. The Fellowship is designed as an intensive incubator of
teaching skills and a philosophical engagement with teaching as a subject of
reflection, systematic and venturesome experimentation, practice, and
research. We seek a recent PhD (no earlier than 2009) whose teaching is
organic to his or her philosophical life and who seeks to strengthen already
promising teaching skills in our energetic and collaborative department and
university. Fellows teach five courses per year, participate in departmental
activities as well as offerings of Elonšs Center for the Advancement of
Teaching and Learning, and enjoy university privileges of Visiting
Professors (including eligibility to apply for some internal grants).
Fellows may expect mentoring and institutional support as they engage in the
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning while also pursuing scholarship in
their areas of specialization. Teaching includes introductory and
upper-level courses in Philosophy and courses in Elonšs General Studies
Program.  Elon is a dynamic private, co-educational, comprehensive
institution that is a national model for actively engaging faculty and
students in teaching and learning. To learn more about Elon, please visit
the University web site at  <http://www.elon.edu <http://www.elon.edu> > .
Visit the department website for a more detailed description of the
Fellowship: http://www.elon.edu/e-web/academics/elon_college/philosophy/
<http://www.elon.edu/e-web/academics/elon_college/philosophy/> .  Completed
applications must be received by January 15, 2012 to receive full
consideration.  Send a letter addressing the goals of the Fellowship, CV,
transcripts, a substantial statement of teaching philosophy and aspirations,
summary of teaching/course evaluations, and three letters of recommendation,
to the search chair at [log in to unmask], including your name in the
subject line.
