Hey,

I'm not a ref, but there was a challenge update that addresses this:

CLARIFICATION 03 – MISSION REQUIREMENTS – Certain missions (Missions 03,
> 08, 12, 14, & 15) include requirements that Energy Units or Looped Water
> Units may not be touching team equipment at the end of the match to score.
> This applies only to those Energy Units or Looped Water Units that are
> touching team equipment directly. Units that are not touching team
> equipment directly will still score.


And Equipment is defined as:

 Equipment includes everything teams bring to the match, such as the robot,
> any attachments or accessories, and the team’s Innovation Project model.
> This section explains what the robot and its accessories can be built from.


 Since the innovation model counts as team equipment, I believe any energy
units touching it would not score.
