I know only few teams advance to the state championship. Also, I have seen in Fll web site, it says other teams can participate for fun in state. Just want to know more about it.

Eagle Ridge for example was able to advance 3 division I teams and 2 division II teams.

These teams are determined by the judges in a deliberation process which discusses all of the teams and how they did compared to other teams. There are no true scores in judging anymore (starting last year) and it is now based on performance compared to other teams. In addition to the judging, teams should have performed in the top ~40% in robot performance (may be different at smaller tournaments where there may only be a few teams in a division).

This means that once a team has won a Champions award, they cannot win any of the other judged awards. If there is a 2nd place Champions award given, then the team which receives that award will not be able to get any other judged awards and so on with all awards.

With these discussions occurring behind closed doors, it can often be hard to tell exactly how your team performed versus all other teams.

We are a volunteer organization and rely on a ton of volunteers to serve as judges, referees and other volunteers. If you are interested, please go to http://www.vadcfll.org/volunteer.html for more information and to be matched with a tournament.
