The center task has varied from one year to the next--in one game the
first team there gets all the points, in another it's a bonus for the
first team and then both sides get points, and now it's both sides
get total points no matter what. For an individual match, the center
points won't affect who wins as 40 points are added or not added to
both sides. In the long run, however, those points will make a huge
difference since chances are they will not be scored in every match.
This is a huge incentive to cooperate with your opponents!
