I’ll of course always defer to Karen, but I’d add that the tournament director/head judge presumably have some discretion: I remember venues that were just too small to make it practical to have three extra adults in the room. When I’m a Judge Advisor, it’s certainly never my goal to keep the coaches/historian out!

 

FWIW, this is indeed a VA/DC FLL thing: a friend coaches in NORCAL FLL (Northern California—Bay area) and coaches are explicitly NOT allowed into judging *at all*, ever. Seems like a decision for expediency, at the cost of the team’s ability to share what they did. But they didn’t ask me L

The official VA/DC FLL policy is the 2 coaches and 1 historian are allowed in the judging room (this is the case for all judging rooms - not just the research).  Teams do not have to send any adults in if they do not want to, but are not allowed more than the three listed.

I have 2 questions that are related:

 

1) I am wondering if 2 coaches and a historian is allowed in the room for each team at the time of research project and core values judging? Last year all 3 were allowed in research project judging session however our historian was not allowed in the core value judging session at GMU. Is this the rule this year too or was that a mistake on Tournament operator's part?

 

2) If our historian is not allowed in the core value judging session, can the coaches record core value performance at the time of judging? (I see so many core value YouTube videos on the internet).

 

just wondering if other team had similar experience last year.
