The NewVa Corridor Technology Council, in conjunction with the Science Museum of Western Virginia and the Roanoke Robotics Club, is organizing an indoor Robot Parade with seminars and table-top exhibits at Roanoke Center in the Square and the Science Museum!
The event will be held from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 21st.
The parade features robot floats constructed and programmed by students of all ages. Attendees of the parade will be able to see fully autonomous robot floats that follow the parade route while detecting other robots in front of them. Teams that wish to enter will build robot floats, programmed to stop and start without human help and follow a black line. Floats may have extra mechanisms and programming to show off during the parade route. In preparation for Memorial Day the following week, the parade theme is Patriotism, celebrating ingenuity and American spirit.
Any student (any age!) may enter- teams can have 1 to 9 members including the coach. Registration of $20 covers the parade, exhibits, admission for 2 to the Science Museum, and two custom medallions upon successful completion of the parade route. Additional team members may be added for $10. Additional information and registration is available online at http://www.thetechnologycouncil.com/roboparade
Exhibitors and seminar hosts are needed! Show off your robot(s), help others with their programming or construction tips. Bring your FLL, FTC, VEX, FRC or other team! Tables can be provided. Teams or individuals wishing to exhibit may contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> for exhibitor information (no charge + free parade entry).
Plan your day based on your skill level:

* Watch the qualifications
* See what's involved
* Lunch downtown
* Tour the museum
* catch the parade
* learn about the robot club
Intermediate:
* Visit displays to gather ideas
* Take in a seminar
* Tour the museum
* Troubleshoot your bot
* Qualify your bot
* Lunch downtown
* Enter the parade
* Join the robot club
Advanced:
* Host a seminar
* Get involved in the robot club
* show off your FLL, VEX, or FTC bot
* Troubleshoot other bots

* Dominate the parade with a CROWD PLEASER!
I hope you'll consider participating in this event. We have timed it to be off-season with FLL, but shortly after the 2011 registration opens. It's a great way to get your team back together, or to kick-off a new team with a "warm-up" for the 2011 contest!
