I agree. We have been successful in running grants through our elementary school PTA under the afterschool enrichment programs. These are simple in and out budget items for them. Most PTA's have their president's email address on their website which can be found as a link off the main school website.

If team members belong to same school, try the following option best suit your team profile.

(1) Middle School - Contact the After School Club Coordinator/Teacher - Explore with him or her.
Alternate contact Tech Ed Teacher.
(2) Elementary School - Contact Assistant Principal for guidance.

May be hard, but give a try. Win-Win for both teams.

(3) Check a FRC (may be FTC) team in your School District (or community) if they can Mentor your team and if established as a non-profit. Schools have not started yet and clubs don't meet till 3rd week of September. I did a quick search for FRC teams registered last year 50 miles from zip code 22030.

Good luck.

You cannot use FIRST because funds are not going directly to FIRST. You can have them filtered through an account at your child's school. They set up an account for robotics. You will have to have a PO issued prior to spending any money. FIRST will accept POs as payment as it is a contract.

Otherwise, you would have to have a group such as Ruritans, Scouts, 4-H, Rotary, or the like filter your funds for you. PTA could filter it, but they have the right to say "no".

Subject: [VADCFLL-L] How to handle corporate donations

I am trying to get a FLL team started, and I have donations available that could cover a significant portion of our initial start-up costs. The catch is that these donations need to be made to a non-profit group with a designation for our team.

I am having a difficult time finding a non-profit group that will support this. FLL coaches manual suggests working with a school. Our school PTA has said "No" and the principal is not sure how to handle such a procedure.

Can anyone offer guidance on how to proceed? Do you know any groups in Virginia and/or Richmond that might support a team and accept these donations on our behalf?

I appreciate any advice!
