According to the Field Setup instructions (http://www.firstlegoleague.org/uploadedFiles/Challenge_Specific/Body_Forward/Body%20Forward%20-%20Field%20Setup.pdf):

Large Bone - - Position the bigger part of this model perfectly on its mark at south center. The set position is with the smaller part positioned as shown, with both parts pressed against the gray rail for alignment, and a 1/16” in (1.5 mm) gap between them. Place the blue ball on the black ring, near the foot.

So the starting position is "with both parts pressed against the gray rail".
