No – sorry. It doesn't work that way.

When you download onto the robot you might notice that it says "compiling" and then "downloading"?

That whole compiling thing means that the graphics and other cool looking stuff are stripped out and only the necessary machine code is actually put on the robot. The software only works one direction - so, if you were to try to pull the program off the robot all you would have is machine code. The NXT-G software can't recompile the machine code back into the graphical interface that you use.

Subject: [VADCFLL-L] Download from brick

I hope someone can help me with this problem. One of my kids accidentally erased part of her program from the computer, but it is still on the robot. Can I download the program from the robot to the computer and if I can how do I do it?

Thanks,
Laurie Oder

On my web site, http://www.masteringlegorobot.com/before-and-at-the-tournament, I've included sample robot design documentation that the Sea Monsters used to place first at the 2011 VA/DC FLL in robot design - mechanical. I've also included the robot design documentation that Vector 67 took to the World Festival.

As the regional tournaments are approaching, I also recommend checking out the section http://www.masteringlegorobot.com/putting-it-all-together. This deals with how to put together the master program and how to train the team to perform like a machine at the table. The master program is built using My Blocks, which are described in the section http://www.masteringlegorobot.com/robot-fundamentals.

VA/DC FLL teams are NOT EXPECTED to have these documents at tournament.

Executive Summary for Robot Design is the same concept as a Programming & Design Document. Some teams have a 1 to 3 pages of their program to show to judges; others have a binder full of information. Core Values poster may have pictures of how a team displayed the FLL Core Values throughout the season. Some teams take their Core Values poster to the Core Values judging session; most leave them at the PIT Area for display. Both the Executive Summary for Robot Design Judging and Core Values Poster are OPTIONAL at VA/DC FLL tournaments.

So...relax FLL teams and judges...these are NOT REQUIRED documents. They are visual aids to display a team's accomplishments during the season.

I also saw a reference to an "Executive Summary" to be presented at the Robot Design judging. How well has this been advertised? I think it's a great idea, but didn't know if teams were aware of it - and whether it is "required" at VADCFLL tournaments.

The Core Values poster is marked as "optional", for the local organization
to decide on. It's also *really badly* advertised. To the best of my
knowledge, VADCFLL isn't using the CV poster. Don't take my understanding as
canon, but if it's wrong, then a lot of teams are going to be scrambling at
the last minute, which seems wrong to me.

Heard it on the coaches call. Is is a requirement to make a Core Values
poster and present it to the judges?
