The kids will come up with a lot of big ideas for the robot too. The first
2 years my kids did not use any sensors and the only robot functions they
could program were forward, back, stop and turn. They had been taught other
things but were very young and my kids were very hyper at 8 & 9 and did not
retain all of it. So when they said we want our robot to 'fly in the air',
etc, I would tell them "Great! Show me how you are going to build and
program it." That clued them in to what they were really capable of at that
point. Even with only using those basic functions that they really
understood, their 2nd year they got high robot score at their regional and
were very consistent. They knew what they could do, understood how it
worked and were very comfortable with making it happen.
