VA-DC FLL Teams, Coaches, and Mentors,

In an effort to help all our teams with FLL Judging related questions, I am please to announce that Scott Rakestraw has agreed to step into the role of State Judge Advisor. Scott has been a long-time coach and mentor so he really knows FLL from that perspective. Please feel free to ask him questions about judging and how to prepare for judged events at our tournaments. You can reach him at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> or by posting judge related questions to the listserv.

He joins the state leadership team consisting of:

Steve Scherr – our Head Ref and Referee Advisor - [log in to unmask] Steve is happy to help you with any field/game related issues. He works closely with Scott Evans – the game designer and most senior official, official regarding game matters. He’s a great source and will respond to questions on the list.

And of course you should be familiar with Karen Berger – our tournament director and Excel wizard. [log in to unmask] She is busy finalizing the tournament schedule and will be coordinating teams and assigning them to tournaments again this season. Please be VERY responsive to her e-mails!

Mark Allen will remain in the role of Head Judge at the championship tournament.

Dustin Skelton is our full time administrative staff – responsible for doing just about everything here at JMU related to FLL. Give him a call if you have any questions – or send them to him via e-mail at [log in to unmask]

Kim Reedy runs the website and keeps it as up to date as possible. Please contact her at [log in to unmask] if you have any questions or have recommendations for improving our information presentation.

Sonya Shaver – our “adult” volunteer recruiter for the championship (please encourage her to stick around – and please volunteer to help her!)

Ralph Grove rounds out the list. In addition to running the Harrisonburg tournament, Ralph is our technical advisor and head scorekeeper for the championship.

Of course we have a whole host of volunteers and champions out there helping in various roles around the region – including some who work for FIRST in some capacity. You will often hear from Angie Fontanilla, Sally Sylvester, Denise Lewis, Don Brobst, and others who serve all FIRST programs.

As always, I’m here to help if you need anything.

Nick
