I suspect there was a misunderstanding. Judges should rank order teams compared to each other. There is no score and no scoring system for judged events.

calculating the average scores for the table games then? The
explanation I received was the best score was for the table score
award and the average was for the 40% eligibility. Based on last year,
I am led to believe it was more for incidental amusement and
statistical interest.
