Often times, a program is really just one long string of blocks that stretches way off the screen (and page). When printing the image you either need to shrink it down to the point of irrelevance or do a lot of image editing. Of course, using My Blocks is often an appropriate solution for this issue.

Another trick is to drag the sequence bar down and back to the left in a serpentine fashion. That way, a long sequence of blocks can be made to fit on one page for easy reading. The listserv won’t let me attach an image showing this, but if you imagine the “====>” showing the sequence bar and it’s direction, and BBB representing a block, it would look something like this:

====BBB==>==BBB==>==BBB==>==BBB==>==BBB==>
                                         V
=========<=======<=======<=======<========
V
====BBB==>==BBB==>==BBB==>==BBB==>==BBB==>
                                         V
=========<=======<=======<=======<========
V
====BBB==>==BBB==>==BBB==>==BBB==

I think Patty is looking to show the settings of each block -- which is not possible from the print command, because it only prints the sequence bar quadrant of the display.

All:

We use custom sheets to record and show the details of each block. The program data recording sheets are for keeping track of what changes they are making to the program so that they can go back to an earlier approach if necessary (Any lab noteboook would do just as well!).

I would say that most judging sessions do not give the judges time to evaluate program at the block level -- the printout just shows that the team takes robot design judging seriously.

In addition to the HTML/png approach that Mark suggested (very nice, but time consuming), you can also print directly to pdf. (Print to Printer rather than to HTML). You can use an OS/browser-based PDF printer (if available), use Adobe Acrobat (the gold standard), or a third party PDF generator application like PrimoPDF (free!). Watch out for the page size and orientation settings. This is much faster, and IMHO adequate for the competition.

  Print to HTML. Go into program directory and find
  The file with the extension .png. Import this file
  Into any graphics program or word and from there you can enlarge
  As much as you like and then print the new file.

    I tried printing out the programs, but I must be doing something wrong. All I see is little boxes.

    What do I need to do to make the program print the details?

      Some kids have placed there printed out programs with pictures and some written documentation into a nice binder. They hand that to the Judges and the judges can review it after the session. If you want it back for next years example, mark the Team Info sheet that you want it back.

      This goes the same for the Project Presentation documents.

What kind of materials are we supposed to provide the judges
regarding robot design? I see the bottom of the team info sheet has a
check box indicating that your team has enclosed robot design
supporting materials. I understand you provide them with printouts of
the programs, and I have printouts from our research, but isn't the
robot itself the supporting materials for robot design?
