All,
We'll be posting more detailed information starting on November 16th - that's the day after our last regional tournament but I'll address some general facts here now. Please note that the times are ESTIMATES at this point. Tournament fee is $100.
Friday Events ----December 4th
There will be a swap meet at the Harrisonburg Children's Museum. We will provide 4 giant sized tubs of LEGO pieces from previous year's field setup kits for team to "harvest". There are lots of unique pieces in these kits so it will be worth your time if you can make it.

Harrisonburg will host a parade on Friday evening - and VA-DC FLL teams will be recognized as VIP Guests at the parade.
Saturday Events ---December 5th --- Project Presentation and Teamwork Judging only ----- No ROBOTS on SATURDAY PLEASE --- Location: Memorial Hall, 395 S. High Street, Harrisonburg, VA 22801

Check-in-Registration will open around 8 am. There will be 90 teams at the state competition this year! Meal tickets will be sold at registration - the cost will be under $8.00 - it's an all you can eat menu at JMU's Dining Hall. They accommodate all food issues from allergies to vegan.

The teams will be divided into groups of morning judging and afternoon judging. There will be activities for students to participate in while they are not involved with judging. Registration will be required for these activities but they are free (due to space, supply, fire and safety - parents and siblings can watch from the hall but may not go into the activity rooms). There will be activities downtown and in the local area for parents and siblings. We'll show the movie Wall-E in the auditorium - once in the morning and once in the afternoon.

Opening Ceremony will start about 9:15 or so. Judging and activities will start around 10 am.
Teams can rotate to lunch between 12 and 1:30 based on their schedules. There are no closing ceremonies on Saturday so teams can depart on their own when complete.
Sunday Events -December 6th---Robot Design and Robot Performance ------- bring your robots (and your research project boards for the pits). Location: Harrisonburg High School, 1001 Garbers Church Rd, Harrisonburg, VA 22801 --------note that easy parking is available on both sides of the building.
Check-in around 8:30 - Short opening ceremony around 9 am. Robot runs and judging will start about 9:30.
HHS Key Club will be selling concessions on site. All proceeds go to a charity.
Awards ceremony will take place between 3:30 and 4:00 and last about an hour.

Ditto for the NXT Squad (McLean, VA)! And, we learned so much from the other teams about team spirit and gracious professionalism. Great tournament.

Team DC Metroids will concur with you all. The tournament was well organized and we had a blast.
The whole crew was so friendly and encouraged teams all through the day.

Dear Cheryl, Steve and the rest of today's volunteers at the Franklin Middle School regional tournament,

Team Hakuna Matata would like to thank you for the many hours of preparation and planning you obviously spent to make the regional tournament at Franklin such a wonderful event. The event schedule was right on time throughout the morning and afternoon, and I genuinely think everyone in attendance had a great time.

We have been to three previous regional tournaments. More than once today, our team's coaches commented to each other that today's tournament was low-key, more intimate and more enjoyable than other tournaments we've attended. You and your team of volunteers graciously and professionally handled the few glitches that came up. Nice work :o)

I hope you and your families will have the opportunity to relax this evening and reflect on the culmination of all your hard work. I am sure all the teams at Franklin today appreciate all you did to make today's tournament a success.

With appreciation,

The coaches and team members of Team Hakuna Matata
