Yes, I totally second that!  I started a team four years ago for my child
and it has been the  best experience!  If you can start now by getting
together, coming up with a team name, and doing some practice and tutorials
with the programming and building, you will be way ahead of the curve in
the fall.  There is a lot you could do now.  Good luck!
