Win a Lego Robotics Workshop at the Czech Embassy in Washington, DC
The Embassy of the Czech Republic celebrates the upcoming fall Mutual Inspirations Festival 2015, dedicated this year to Czech short-story writer, political thinker, and playwright Karel Capek (1890-1938). Karel Capek is foremost renowned for introducing the word "robot" to the languages of the world in his science fiction play R.U.R., which stands for Rossum's Universal Robots. Suggested by his brother Josef during a brainstorming session, the word robot is derived from the Czech word "robota" or "forced labor."
The futuristic play features nonhumans, who revolt, leading to the extinction of the human race. Written in 1920, the play was revolutionary for its time and has continued to inspire future generations to this day.
The Czech Embassy invites children ages 7 - 10 years old to submit a drawing of their innovative vision of a robot along with a description of what this unique robot does. The Embassy will select the 40 best creations and these winners will get the chance to learn the basics of robotics at a Lego Robotics Workshop taught by the Great Adventure Lab at the Czech Embassy on September 19 at 3 p.m.
Submission of Drawings:
* Please scan your child's drawing and any description of the robot and email same to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> by the extended deadline of Sept 10, 2015.
* Please include your child's name, age, and a parent or guardian's contact information in the email and place "Robot Drawing Contest" in the subject line.
* The Embassy will select the best 40 submissions and notify the respective parents and guardians with a special invitation to the Lego Robotics Workshop.
* The Embassy of the Czech Republic reserves the right to publish the winning submissions.
* Please note, the Embassy of the Czech Republic cannot pay for accommodations or transportation to the workshop.
