It could be hundreds of little things.  Just a few:

- Not setting the robot up correctly on launch
- Different “press” / “launch” technique kid to kid
- Loosening / moving parts during normal handling
- axles get bent
- tire tread gets moved a bit
- wheels get dirty / lose traction
