Please considering helping a Glen Allen high school student with this research project by taking either this coach or student survey. The study is looking at the effect, if any, of gender stereotypes on girls in FIRST LEGO League. More information is provided below.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear participants of the FLL,
Hello, I am a student from Glen Allen High School, located in Glen Allen, Virginia. I am in a research class this year and I am planning on conducting a study about the effects, if any, of gender stereotypes on girls, 9-14 years old, within the FIRST LEGO League. Within my study, I will give one survey to the children who choose to volunteer and another survey to the coaches that choose to volunteer. I will be giving a 37-question survey to FLL children pertaining to whether they have been exposed to gender stereotypes, their interactions with other children, and their opinions of the FIRST LEGO League as a whole. I will also be giving a 34-question survey to the coaches that is very similar to the survey that the students answered so that I could get an authority’s perspective on whether there is gender stereotyping in the FLL teams. It needs to be stated that my research will not have the intent of hurting any of the participants that choose to volunteer; no names or faces of the participants will be associated with their responses. Additionally, all of my survey questions will allow the participants to not answer if they would prefer not to, except for the consent questions stating whether or not the participant would allow their responses to be used in my research. Both of the surveys are linked at the bottom of this document if you wish to volunteer. The only requirement that I have before participants take this survey is that the children are between the ages of 9-14 and the coaches are coaching children between the ages of 9-14. Thank you for your time as you read my proposal and if you have further questions, you can reach out to me at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
