On the official FLL resource web page it states: For official LEGO constructions, LEGO’s CAD program, LEGO Digital Designer, can also be used (with electronic building instruction features). 
 
I have tried a little bit on LDD. While the parts list is quite good, I couldn't figure out how to place / rotate the parts to the orientation that I wanted.
 
Does anyone have "working experience" with LDD to archive FLL robot design?
