"Q: What are the main differences between the EV3 tablet app and the EV3 desktop software?
The EV3 app only contains the programming blocks that are mostly frequently used which include the Action and Flow Control blocks. Also, there is no graph environment where you can predict, collect and analyze data from sensors. In addition, the EV3 app contains no digital workbook or content editor where students can document their findings and teachers can edit or create content."
Unless my info is outdated..
The iPad app also can not talk to older NXT bricks.. so if you're keeping any of your old hardware around.. that's another ding against it.
Also.. the desktop app can read in programs from both the app and older versions of the full suite, but the app can not read in programs from the desktop/laptop version (so kids can't work on it from home or alternate location if they don't have the iPad+app).
I would say stay away from the iPad app in the classroom.. unless you absolutely have no choice, or you're just using it in an intro level class.
Just my 0010 cents.

Subject: [VADCFLL-L] I Pad vs Surface Pro for programming
Our teams are planning on switching to EV3s next year. We were also thinking of using tablets for programming. What would work best for programming, an I Pad or Surface Pro? If you use I Pads, how do you save your programs?
