Subject: Re: [VADCFLL-L] Team Zoom

This is a great question as we learned a lot of this weekend from our first remote event.

If teams plan to meet together for their judging session, they are mostly likely going to be using masks and social distancing. This can be done, but making sure team members can be heard clearly is very important. If you plan to follow this type of structure, we would suggest having the students stand back from the computer and then come up one at a time to talk. If they can create enough distance to remove their mask, that is ideal, but safety is always number one (so that may not be an option). While the content of this video is not important conversation, I wanted to give you a visual. Here is a YouTube webinar, between Droid Robotics and the Sharon Tiger Techs. You can see in the video that each student approaches the computer to speak and it is helpful. At an event, we will try to be sending someone into your virtual room before the judges enter to check the audio quality, but we cannot guarantee it at every event.

As for the robot table, it is not needed for the judging session. Teams are not expected to run live rounds… Robot Design judges will be looking at one of your submitted official robot game rounds. The robot design portion should be focused on the building of your robot, the mission strategy, the programming, the attachments, etc. Screen sharing will be available to teams, so if they want to use their 5 minutes of Robot Design time giving a presentation or showing a closer look at their robot/ programming/ strategy/ attachments, they will be able to do so before the 5 minute Robot Design Q&A.

Good morning -

My team is planning to attend judging session from my home. They will be wearing mask and follow social distancing norms. They will have robot table in the room, We have made arraignment for better video conferencing with zoom. Will this arrangement work for judging. Please advice.

We have it set up so teams will have access to their links all day. The main purpose of this is if the team has a robot game question, they can email their head ref for a quick meeting. The head ref will be meeting the team back in their judging room. It also allows the team to get set up before judges “enter” the room.

Teams attending the event tomorrow will be receiving their event links shortly so they can get the information to everyone on the their team.

VA-DC FLL Leadership,
Will teams have access to their team's Zoom link all day, or will it only be available to them for a certain period of time? I am trying to see how much time for testing we will have prior to our scheduled judging session.
