I used to run 2-3 teams, and I have volunteered at and run events. We kept our teams in the same classroom for working on the robots without a problem. As to the research project and the programming though, make sure they are using different computers and saving everything to a flash drive--everyday! Each team will need their own laptop for competition if possible. If they are sharing one and something goes wrong with one team's programming, you can guess where the blame will go :~) Also, they cannot both work on one computer, and sometimes there are "emergencies" during competitions.

If one or both teams should decide to do skits, make posters, or anything else visual, make sure they have space to work out of sight of each other or that they are both completely different problems/solutions. (This is for their benefit in the judging rooms.)
