I think they just are there.  They may or may not serve a purpose depending upon how your team chooses to complete the mission.  Remember, there at least 101 different ways to complete these missions, so use them if you need them and don't use them if you don't.

  I have a question regarding the black lines around the medicine dispenser pusher. I understand why the 'narrow' black lines are which are parallel to the medicine dispenser pusher. I cannot seem to figure out the 2 thick black lines that are parallel to the north wall.
