Thanks Steve.

That's what I was thinking but I was hoping that was not the case.

I'll send the team back to the drawing board

  Lloyd,

What you describe is not allowable. It's explicitly prohibited in Rule 23, Aiming:

You may use a frame/"jig" to aim the robot, but its use must be completely in Base at all times, and you must let go of it prior to starting/restarting.

It's also part of a more general prohibition in Rule 20, Sending/Handling Objects Outside Base, because it sounds like the team would be "strategically extending" the object out of Base by hand action.

"Aiming" is a strategic action, so only the robot may cause things to be outside Base for strategic purposes. This is different from "Storage" which is not allowed to have strategic (i.e. points-scoring) consequences ever. A "stored" object must be picked up and used entirely within Base before it can be used for strategic purposes.

    Steve,

quick question, we have a quick, straight piece, setup jig, it actually sits mostly outside base while aiming and then is picked up, and off the table, before the robot is started, is this outside the rules?

    Thanks,

Everything that you use on the field must be made of LEGOs, and must fit entirely within Base while you use it.

In addition, your team may look at the markings on the mat.

        Hi,
Could any one please answer that if we could use any rules or any other kind reference to measure the start point at the base.
        Regards,
