I inherited a team that has been competing for several years. Is there any direct use or need to keep ALL the parts from the previous years' challenges?

I understand that they are good for spare parts if a part is lost or comes up missing or breaks.
I just wonder how much of an 'inventory' I need to keep.
Was thinking of using them with Lego 'club' events at our library, to help build interest in the team, for new team members to practice building.... Other suggestions?
