It can be hard to get Project under 5 minutes but keeping it under 5 minutes benefits everyone. For a team that is over, it is better to cut content and stay under 5 minutes than to try to cover more and go over 5 minutes. The rule is under 5 minutes, including setup. Each judge handles running long a little differently but the team should expect the judge to stop them at 5 minutes.

Project Judging Guidance:

1. Identify your problem

2. Explain your team’s innovative solution

3. Describe how your team shared your findings with others.

4. Meet the presentation requirements:

* Set up and complete your presentation in 5 minutes or less with NO ADULT HELP

* Include all team members; each team member must participate in the Project judging session

* Give your presentation live; you may use media equipment (if available) but only to enhance the live presentation.

The 5 minutes is important for the many reasons discussed (schedule, fairness, consistency). The judges need time between judging sessions to fill out the rubric for each team. The Q&A session also allows the judges the opportunity to ask questions about the rubric that may not have been covered in project presentation. For example, sharing is a requirement and if a team did not cover sharing, the judges need Q&A to determine if a team shared.

Each team is judged per the official rubric, which can be found at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.firstlegoleague.org_sites_default_files_Official-5FEvent-5FInfo_combined-2Drubrics-2D2015.pdf&d=BQIFaQ&c=eLbWYnpnzycBCgmb7vCI4uqNEB9RSjOdn_5nBEmmeq0&r=J5fb0ELkRoh7TzAGYz99sSMvB-c7i4AC0HDT2OVPrww&m=9SxvJlI21zrGaieAE4usS62thS05xJEfwXfbVTNsY-g&s=8dChJsb1dMA2mKLXV-ziAFuRw_2MCigqHDnMJlSbLe4&e= .

If the kids run over the 5 minutes, which our team most likely will, how do judges handle this? Do they stop the kids, or just let them finish and then deduct points for running over?

All,

I didn't see Robot Interruption and Junk penalty points anywhere mentioned.

How many points are charged for each robot interruption if it is stranded outside the safety area while running and how many points for something such as leaving a plastic bag or something outside the safety area after end of mission ?

Thanks,

Shashi
