Subject: [VADCFLL-L] FLL Fun Day - Call for Volunteers

FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Fun Day - Saturday, May 12th - Osbourn Park High School, Manassas VA - over 500 elementary school students (4th/5th grades) will play a game called Food Factor. The game is played with a LEGO robot and a computer program that the students wrote for the robot to follow.

19 new schools have FLL teams in 2011 which added to the 29 new schools in 2010. Many are Title I schools. So for many this is their first year to play the game before they feel comfortable as a team and coach to compete in a real competition. This day is for fun and to experience the excitement of robotics.
Robotics teams from local middle and high schools will be present to show off their robots and to show parents the progress of robotics in the K-12 arena.
The FBI will be bringing their 800 pound robot to show how robotics is used in business too.

Adult and high school volunteers will be paired up with a season 5th grade FLL student who will act as a referees for the game, robot design and team building challenges. Signup is available at www.mysignup.com/fll.

Contact Denyse Carroll ([log in to unmask]) with any questions or concerns.
Doors open at 7:30. Opening Ceremony at 8:30a. Closing ceremony at 2:00p.
Pit cleanup and departure 2:30p.
