For our machine design review.. we went for something more usable by the kids.


We had no idea what we were doing, but employed a KISS in everything we did..  Our method (below) won us the coveted Bot Design Award. [😊]


In the case of the bot missions.. For each of our missions (or mission segments) we created a black&white print out of the mat (take it from the last page of the challenge docs via screen shot and MS-paint). At the top of each mission sheet we hand wrote the name of the mission in sharpie and points of the various graded end states. The kids hand drew the bot mission movements on the mission mat that they then used to write the program from (using hand drawn arrows and action circles).  This makes it obvious that it was all kid based work. Also on the front of each mission sheet we have a cut and taped photo of the bot starting position/alignment... and on the back a printed/tapes photo of the mission experts, and also paper printed/taped copy of the bot's program screen shot.  This makes the mission sheets very useful for any team member to look and and figure out how to run a mission, AND nice for showing to judges.


We put each of these missions into a laminate sleeve (for our bot ring binder) that the kids could flip through to show the judges.

VERY handy for demonstrating WHO worked on each bot mission.. what the program entailed.. and great for the kids to use to learn each mission (so there was no single silos of information).

In my opinion, what works best is to take screenshots and paste them into PowerPoint or Keynote.

With a presentation deck you can make a nice title page, even include team picture and picture of your robot, and label/comment code.  For programs that stretch really long you can cut them up and display them like a book (top to bottom, left to right)

You can also scale the code so it's visible to 40 year old eyes (which helps us older folks see what's going on)

1) Take screenshots of the code using the iPad (press the "off button" and "home button" at the same time).  Print the screenshots.

2) Share the program/code file to a desktop from the App (click on the share icon on the main screen of the app and then pick the program you want to email and select "share to desktop".  Open the ev3 file on a computer (using the regular EV3-G software - either home or edu edition).  Then go to File-->Print to print the code.  Or you can always get screenshots using the desktop version.
