RE: APA petition problem
I have been able to place a notice above the petition that reads:
Wheaton IL, and Bethel University violate the APA’s policy. Wheaton MA,
and Bethel College do not.
I am unable to directly alter the content of the petition at this time, but
I have asked the host site if they would. The problem is that they don't
want to allow us to change the petition after any signatures have been made
(for obvious reasons). Thanks again for bringing this to my attention.
Charlie

Dear Charles,
I just signed the petition, and i thank your for writing and organizing it,
but there is one problem with it that i hope can be fixed.
There are 2 institutions named Wheaton College. The one listed on the
petition is no doubt the one in Illinois. The entirely different one, which
does NOT discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation (and which has
been the academic home of many strong feminist and GLBTQ faculty), is
located in Massachusetts. I am concerned that the image of the latter
school might be improperly tarnished by the petition as it now reads, or
less likely, that there could be a legal problem resulting from that.
Perhaps it is possible to get that small but signficant clarification
inserted in the petition.

This petition requests that the American Philosophical Society enforce its
own non-discrimination policy by ceasing to advertise jobs on behalf of
colleges and universities that discriminate on the basis of sexual
orientation, or at least indicating that the colleges and universities in
question fail to comply with the non-discrimination policy.
