Hi Sarah, I agree with the advice given to you. It is all very good. There is definitely more to do than there is time to do it in. I also suggest going to the tournament. It will be very helpful for preparing for next year. Here is a resource that I thought was pretty good. http://www.cafepress.com/thenxtstep.173374563 Cari Norton -----Original Message----- From: First Lego League Discussion [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Glenn Roberts Sent: Tuesday, October 14, 2008 5:39 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [VADCFLL-L] Help with FLL Please! Sarah: You've gotten lots of good advice from this group so not sure I can add too much more of value. My suggestion is start by picking just ONE mission that your team can do and FOCUS on that for your next meeting. There are some relatively easy missions that can be accomplished by a simple program to have the robot push something or move a short distance and return. I suspect the kids will be thrilled to achieve even such a simple mission, and that will inspire them to move on to some others. Even if you only master a handful of them it's still worth going to the competition. The experience will be an inspiring eye opener to you and the whole team. For ideas on how to build your robot you can search YouTube for videos of previous competitions. Good luck! -----Original Message----- From: First Lego League Discussion [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Sarah Brown Sent: Tuesday, October 14, 2008 11:15 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [VADCFLL-L] Help with FLL Please! Hi everyone, This is my first time coach and I am feeling a little lost! It was a last minute decision to get a group of students together and compete this year in FLL. Seeing as how the competition is in November, I'm starting to feel the pressure! Any suggestions??? We have met about 3 times and the students have a working robot with the NXT kit. I have some questions if anyone can help me! 1. Do the NXT Robots have to be built a specific way for competition? Or is it up to students how they build it? 2. With the climate missions this year, do you compile 1 program that the robot is designed to do ALL Missions within taht ONE program? Or can you do a series of programs to accomplish the missions? 3. I know I have a lot of reading and researching to do but is there something someone would suggest as a starting point? Any help would be SO appreciated!!! Thanks!!!
