Steve needs to read the mission once again.  It specifically says "they must not be touching the mat outside that model"

Study Wildlife
Move the polar bear and/or the snowmobile to the research area. To score, they must be making direct contact with
the research area model and/or the mat within that model, but they must not be touching the mat outside that model.
The scoring bear is worth 15 points upright, or 10 points “sleeping” (on its side), and the scoring snowmobile is worth
10 points.

J. Baker is mistaken.  First, "touching" means that some part of the model is touching the mat in
the scoring area.  The mission does not state that the model must be "completely" inside the area,
so some part of the model can be touching the scoring area, and some part can be outside the
area, and it would still be a successful mission.

Second, as Phil Smith III noted earlier, field damage to the mission models has to be pretty severe
and clearly due to some robot action, like a crashing impact,  to be attributed to the robot.  If a
hat, ski, arm, or a ski pole falls off during a round, it would probably be considered model failure,
and be something not able to be repaired during the match.  The team could ask for the pieces to
be removed from the field as stray objects.

Although it does not apply during this year's game, even if the mission had required that the
model be completely inside the research area, and a ski had fallen off and was not in the area, I
would expect the detaching of the ski to be ruled as model damage, and that the team could still
earn points for the mission.
