We need 90 judges for Saturday, 31 January!
You are receiving this email because you have shown
an interest in being a FLL judge or you have the potential to identify
volunteers who enjoy working with budding engineers and scientists in the 8-13
year old range. Please feel free to forward this email to other qualified
individuals with similar interests.
The goal of Saturday, 31 January is to
first celebrate the hard work of the 80+ teams (probably 500+ youngsters) that
will be competing and second, to select the most qualified team to send to the
International FLL Competition in Atlanta.
Judging categories and qualifications:
1. Technical Robot Design – This category judges the technical merits of the robot in terms of innovation, programming, and mechanical design. Judges should have computer, scientific or technical backgrounds. Contact Technical Team Leader, Rusty Burrow, ([log in to unmask]) to volunteer in this category.
2. Research Project Presentation – Each team identifies a problem related to the challenge theme (Climate Connections this year) and presents a research project/solution to that problem. Judges rank the quality/merits of each team’s presentation. Judges should have backgrounds in the technical/scientific/ research fields. Contact [log in to unmask] to volunteer in this category.
3. Teamwork – “Gracious Professionalism” is one of the mantras of the FLL. Teams are scored on how they interact with each other, other teams, and the community. Judges need not have technical backgrounds. Any leader who recognizes, practices or teaches teamwork would make an exceptional judge. Good prospects are team coaches, military professionals, teachers, police officers, etc. How about an Eagle Scout? Contact John Schnell ([log in to unmask]) to volunteer in this category.
Judges will need to attend a short training session (time and date to be determined) and to be at the UMBC competition from approximately 7:30 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday, January 31.
Please volunteer! I promise it will be a day you will always remember. Don’t hesitate to call if I can be of assistance.
