Thank you very much, Eric. The problem was indeed caused by incompatibility between RIS and new version of Quicktime.
Now I remember that in the past during installing RIS 2.0 Quicktime 4 on the install CD will be installed even if the system has a new verion of Quicktime already. Not this time - Qt4 didn't get installed.
I did following to get around -
1 - uninstall Qt7
2 - install Qt4 from the CD
3 - reinstall Qt7 to a different directory so Qt4 and Qt7 can co-exist.
Now RIS can start (with Qt4).
Thanks very much to anyone who made suggestions to me.

Jin: I had this problem this summer. I don’t remember exactly, but I think you need to delete Quicktime and reinstall and older version (6.5.1.17 or older) of the same program for it to run. As I don’t remember exactly, You can search for the error message and RIS to read about the error and the solution. Eric

Yesterday when I tried to start Mindstorm RIS (RCX software) on a Windows XP system after reinstalling RIS to the PC, I got the following message on a "dialog box" -
"A critical error has occurred. You may be running out of memory, or you may need to reinstall Robotics Invention System 2.0"
Does anyone know how to resolve the problem?
