Destination Imagination has timed exercises and the kids decide, usually before they go into the event, whose job it is to be time keeper.  Practice this in groups with several people being the timer.  They can simply ask the judges or wear a watch with a second hand to keep track of the time, but either way making one team member responsible for that part of the exercise would be useful.
If FLL lets you bring a timer in with you, bonus.

Subject: [VADCFLL-L] Teamwork Challenge - Timer?

Our team is headed to the State competition, but one of the areas they
want to work on between now and then is the team work challenge.  They
had trouble keep track of their time while in the challenge at the regional
tournament and they asked me today if they could bring a timer in with them
to help manage their time better.  Can they bring a simple digital kitchen timer
into the challenge with them?

Thanks so much and we look forward to meeting so many new teams at
State.  Good luck to those who are competing over the next two weeks.
