You have to use lego parts. You can use lego string and cut it. You can use lego rubber bands.  You can use lego parts to make a cable chase.

No exceptions.

I know that we are not to use any non-Lego pieces - but can there be an exception to use rubber-bands or ties to hold the cables together. The kids have tried to snake the cables in every possible way and currently have them tied together with rubber bands.
