Eric/All,
This is always a question so we try to be very explicit in the answer.
JMU students will have a roster of participants for each of the activities. After closing ceremonies, and again at 2:00 pm, participants will be divided up by activity and led to the activity by the JMU students.
The JMU students will remain with the participants for the duration and bring them back to the auditorium to be released to coaches and parents.
Parents, coaches, siblings, and other non-registered kids are not allowed into the activities. You can follow them to the room but you must remain outside! I know this sounds harsh, but... the faculty have put a LOT of effort into preparing age appropriate programming for our participants. We've purchased the correct amount of supplies and are prepared to provide instruction to the registered number of students.
Additionally, the classrooms have a specific capacity. If the classroom holds 25 participants and we add 50 parents, nothing gets done. That problem is exacerbated by younger siblings. Not only do they add to the "mass" to the space, the activity isn't resourced for them to participate, the activity isn't always age appropriate, they distract from the instruction and degrade the experience for the intended audience. In some cases the younger siblings are downright dangerous.
I could site a number of very specific examples, but the bottom line is we just can't do it AND we really need your support on this.
Thanks,
Nick

Subject: [VADCFLL-L] Championship Question

Hi there everybody,

My team is headed for the state tournament this weekend for the first time. My question is what happens during the student activities from a coach's standpoint? Am I suppose to hang around, attend one of the activities, disappear? I'm debating on bringing the family along with me, and didn't know if I was going to be needed during that time. Thanks.
