Hi Medhini,
The age divisions go by the age of the child on January 1 of the competition year.  Division one is ages 9-11, so if he was still 11 on January 1, 2012, and then turned 12 on January 5th of this year, then he would technically be in Division 1 for this coming fall season in 2012.  However, you could also choose to be in Division 2 if you opted to, since he will be 12 this whole year, and the season doesn't start until the fall.  It is the upper age limit that is the hard rule.

Also, if anyone else on your team falls into the age category for Division 2, then the whole team has to compete in Division 2 anyway.  Hope that helps!

Hi,

I new coach and looking to form a team for this year. My son is born
on Jan 5th 2000. Do you think he is eligible for Division 1? Any
suggestions.
Didn't want to be surprised at the end.

Thanks,
Medhini
