I would say the heart of the rule of ten kids is that no more than ten brains get to work on the competition materials and solutions.  To me, I would wonder, is this the first time your sub has been present?  If they were present before, did they contribute to the team's ideas and solution?   Because it's really hard to keep kids who have an idea about something from sharing with the group, and that would break the ten kids rule (which is different from collaboration) . If they were not present unless a team members was absent at the last second, would they integrate well into the core value challenge, & how would they know what lines to follow for the skit? 

   Would the tournament know? No. Is it a good idea? Unless you have less than a ten kid crew, I don't actually think so.
