It's easy as adults to think we're being objective, but when an
authoritative figure says their ideas won't work at all and should not be
considered, it can be taken personally by the kids- even if that was not
the intention or tone.
You can make a list of pros and cons with the kids about each idea,
adding just one con and one pro of your own to each list. ( Anything that
kills a person will easily discarded during the voting process.) Ask about
each item- Can we make it? How much will it cost? Does it do any possible
harm? Can we redesign it so it doens't do harm? Ask the kids to vote on
their favorite ideas after all products are carefully considered. Remain a
neutral force during the voting (it is hard, but try), go with what the
decision of the group. It may not be *their *intention to create it. My
team voted early this year to create their solution. We have let that
guide them as they came up with ideas. Their skit will be about 3
products, one is theoretical- but could certainly be made by someone with
the right know how!
If the only thing stopping your team is money, talk to them about that
too. Do they need to fund raise for it? Let them pick their goals, and
amazing things could happen :)
