Mike,

The best answer, in my personal opinion, should come from each individual tournament. For a little background on this requirement change, the change in the table wall border height was initiated by the availability of 2x4 wood (which is actually 3-1/2" tall when stood on end) in other countries. Since standard wood sizes vary by country, a stock 2x4 is hard to obtain for our international FLL teams.

My prediction is that the table height will most likely be 3-1/2" in all tournaments being held in the United States and might vary in other countries. It is good to verify prior to each tournament if your design requires exactly 3-1/2". The better approach is to design your robot so that variations of the table height does not influence the robot's performance.

Best of Luck!
Bill

16 - BORDER HEIGHT REMINDER
Remember that the height of the table border walls at a tournament might be different than the height of the border walls of the tables you're been practicing on.  The Field Setup page (and Update 8, below) give allowable border heights of anywhere between 2-1/2" and 3-1/2" (64mm and 90mm).  If you rely on the upper third of the boder wall either being there or not being there, this variability may affect you.

Are the vadcfll table borders at the 3-1/2" height?

Our robot depends on that upper third being there as currently designed.

Mike
