With game update 19 any damage that happens to the obstacles is not to be viewed as model damage.

19 – BROKEN OBSTACLES (Sep. 9)
Obviously the "obstacle" models are fragile. Because the breakage is due to their design, if they break you will NOT get a call of "model damage" at tournaments. At the same time, the damage is predictable (you've been dealing with it all season), so it is considered a variable for you to expect and consider while you design. Also please understand that the models are repaired by humans... If you see that any model isn't built correctly, Rule 19 gives you the ability and responsibility to ask that it be corrected before the match starts.

I would assume that this applies only if it is clear that your intention is not model destruction (Giant bulldozer attachment), but if the robot makes an attempt to get over the wall or dyno and something comes loose by no fault of the teams and is unable to be repaired on the spot and then the team using the same strategy progresses farther on a subsequent attempt (with this update) I dont see where the rule 34 would apply.

I meant to send this to the entire list.

Pete,
  that's a really great question!

In previous years, the impact of Model Damage has typically been evaluated right away at the time of the damage. This year, because of the free rescue capability, the possibility of scoring can be deferred until later in the match.

My first inclination is to say, no, it isn't okay. A team that obviously benefited from earlier Model Damage to the Obstacles would not earn a higher value for the mission. Any points from the Obstacles mission that were earned prior to the damage or without benefit of the damage (if that were possible) would still be awarded to the team. Rule 34 prevents a team from increasing its score as a direct result of causing Model Damage.

This opinion may be revised by a future Game Update, as always.

Greetings!

For the obstacles mission, is it OK if a robot causes damage to the obstacles, and then benefits from these damages during a retry?

I'm looking at rule 34 "MODEL DAMAGE"
• Any scoring success which obviously depended on model damage is marked scoreless.

Does this rule apply here?

Thanks!
