Hi Desh, Your computer must have been hit by an electron storm.  I'm not sure if this qualifies as a "natural disaster". Ha, ha, ha!

Folks, I just want to clear this up a bit.  The list included 9 "natural events".  These are a [safe] list of events that can cause "natural disaster" to pick from.  The "sink holes" that Mark Vanderlyn has mentioned in one of his e-mail would qualify if it is caused by one of the "natural events", i.e. earthquake or rain storm.

Once a “natural disaster” has been selected, the team then needs to identify a "problem" caused by the "natural disaster", and find an "innovative solution" for your project.

In conclusion, if your team choose one of the "natural events" from the "safe" list, you are pretty safe.  If your team chooses an event [not] on the safe list, you will need to convince the judges at your tournament that it is a "natural disaster" that meet the disaster cycle of prepare, stay safe, and rebuild.

Otis Pierson has shared a very good video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNa4perHN5c&feature=youtu.be.

Mark has also point out about the project FAQ that you can follow at: http://www.firstlegoleague.org/challenge/projectfaq

I just want to point out that the project FAQ supersede the challenge document, and judges will go with the FAQ for final ruling -- so check it regularly.  Also, if your team has a project idea that you are not too sure if it will fit the requirement of this year challenge, feel free to ask FLL at [log in to unmask].  They will reply within 1 to 2 days.

Best wishes,
Curt

Sorry went out prematurely.

Enjoy the Zits comic fury - what happens after your FLLr's  grows out to become College bound seniors. Still trying to figure out how those flies passed through the door.

Interesting.  I did't know FIRST is now playing the part of mother nature in limiting the natural disaster (problems) and solutions.

So I was interpreting that to mean that they actually wanted you to choose one from that list. If it had said, "like the following, for example, etc" I would have thought differently. I wonder if we should clarify with someone about that, to be sure?
